Carrington Virginia Lamb came from a mixed blood family, her mother possessing no magical skills, although her father coming from near-pureblood lineage, and is something she tends to be rather proud of. Her father served as a doctor in a children’s hospital, where he met Carrington’s mother, an intern nurse. The two fell in love instantly and were married shortly after. They had a girl, Carrington, who they loved and nurtured, but found increasingly difficult to care for, with the father’s promotion to supervisor of the newborn ward. There was still time, however, for a second child, this time, a boy by the name of Robert. The two years between the siblings was hardly a problem, as the two got along famously, however, one day, their parents came to them with the news that they were going to take a break. At the time, Carrington was too young to understand, and her brother had hardly any idea what was going on, but they remained in the custody of their mother, with many visits to their father, both at home and his workplace.
Their mother, then a nurse completed the responsibilities of mother and father, instilling a strong spirit of determination and ambition in both children, particularly Carrington, who became a strong advocate of the less fortunate, and especially of women’s rights and abilities. It was that spirit which prompted her to become so competitive, in athletics, such as swimming and Quidditch, and academics. Her first display of magic came on her mother’s birthday, when she and her brother were trying to ready the house and bake a cake by the time their mother returned home. Carrington, being as young as she was, became somewhat overwhelmed by the stress and time constraints, and found that when she tried to light the candles with a faulty lighter, her younger brother rushing her even moreso, the cake exploded into flames. Happy birthday, mom! The fire brigade arrived shortly after the clean up the smoldering cake, and although Carrington’s mother was shocked, she was overjoyed to hear of her daughter’s magical abilities.
When Carrington received her letter asking her to attend Hogwarts, it was one of the happiest days of her life. Although sad to leave her warm home and family, she eagerly accepted the offer, and began her schooling. It was no surprise to see the passionate girl be sorted into Gryffindor, after hearing her speech on the Hogwarts Express about how although a woman, she was still perfectly capable of holding open doors and didn’t need a man to hold them for her, a lecture which nearly lasted the whole trip. She also had quite a bit to say when she found out first years, even if they knew how to fly, wouldn’t be allowed to play Quidditch. It wasn’t so much that she had a problem with authority, simply, could not understand some rules, and saw them to make less of younger students. The young girl picked up a few friends in her first year, seen as rather charismatic and friendly, even if somewhat fiery tempered, and rather enjoyed her classes. Her second year went likewise, and she continued to improve her grades and take interest in the piano, at which she excelled, spending a majority of her time, when not socializing or studying, practicing, even if there didn’t happen to be one present, memorizing the notes and their sounds, trying to play in her head. At the start of her third year, she was pleased to see her brother accepted to the school, though rather shocked to see him sorted into Ravenclaw. Still, valuing all houses the same, she spent a good deal of time with her younger brother, including him in her circle of friends, and striving to become an alternate beater on her house’s Quidditch team.
